Me with the skunk stripe…

Katrina, who recently stopped by my blog and commented on My Grey Period described me to a ‘T’ – I am officially in the skunk stripe period of Project Hair.  All a bit depressing really.  Without a doubt the grey is making not just an appearance but a statement!

There's going to come a time when it's going to take more than a hat to hide this!

All does not bode well for this festive time when everyone else seems to be shiny and glittery.  So what to do?

Well as I’m sworn off the hair dye I am going for the old distraction technique.  Out with the old boring black beret and in with the brightly coloured hats and scarves.  I figured if I can distract the eye from my skunk like appearance then I’m on to a winner.

Today's ensemble!

However that is all fine and well when I’m outside but inside the skunk like person reigns. I have however come up with a cunning plan…..coloured hair extensions.

Now what colour to go for?

A skunk like Christmas is not for this gal, so I’ll be weaving a few coloured magical strands through the grey and I will go to the ball.

So yes I may be in my skunk like phase of Project Hair but the real me is still shining through despite the grey.  So for the big finale today it’s got to be the Leftover Cuties singing ‘All of Me’ for my husband who is putting up with All of Me – even the Skunk Me

  1. Why ahve you sworn off the hair dye? I’m intrigued…or have I misunderstood.

One day I’m going to add some pink stripes to my hair as a final statement of rebellion against age.

  2. If you click on the link in the post to ‘My Grey Period’ it explains Piglet. So you’re a fan of the pink strips – I’m leaning toward the mustard and the blue myself

  3. OK so you want to go grey – why not dye your hair grey until it grows through naturally (is that possible) – or would be defeating the objective of doing this naturally?
I think I’d be tempted to at least get some highlights put in that are closer tot he natural shade that’s coming through?
Not sure what to suggest – I have never really died my hair and it’s only now in my 40s when it has become a dull flat dirty blonde am I contemplating have some colours meshed in to brighten it up.

    • I asked my hairdresser about just ‘going grey’ but she says you can’t just dye it that colour? I think I’ll let all the colour grow out and then see what I’ve got – if it’s too boring I might eventually opt for some colour meshed in too – but I’ve got to grow it all in first to see what it looks like.

  4. I am all about the skunk stripe, which is NOT an indicator you look old, it just shows that you are single-handedly bringing back the Punk Era! And I’m going to be right there at your side when you do!! No dye!! And you know what you ought to do? Get one of those hair feathers and braid it into the skunk stripe and walk around with your head held high, because everybody else WISHES they were that awesome. :o )

    • Actually there is not quite as much grey as I’d expected and it certainly fits with my pale Scottish complexion so maybe it will be fine. Might try the feather idea, thanks for the tip.

  5. Also, the lion with the stripes is awesome and I’m stealing it for Pinterest. Because they issued me an invite and now I am officially getting canned from my teaching gig for spending too much tome on the internet! lol

  7. I have no time to read blogs this morning but I couldn’t resist your title. Love your attitude. And you’re right–a splash of color will work wonders. Hope you’re having a great day. Love your blog.

  8. I know how important hair is is ones identity (thinking back to the time I had to shave off all of mine in preparation for my brain surgery). So you are handling your “skunk” phase with grace and admirable comic flair (love that lion photo). This, too shall pass. At least you have hair…and hats and scarves. And it’s cold, so wearing those hats and scarves seems both fashionable and wise; unlike me, whose hair was growing out ever so slowly (and not at all around the scar) during the hottest months of the year. :|

    • I’m grateful for my hats – I far prefer winter because for me the best bit is getting wrapped up. It must be tough to grow hair in after it’s been shaved off, thankfully my growing my hair in is my choice and not thrust upon me. Maybe our hair slows down a bit as we get older. I guess you could look for some cool sun hats that reflect your personality. Thanks for you encouraging comment, as always – glad you liked the pictures.

  9. I finally let the gray come out by cutting my hair really, really short and then letting it grow out. Yes, it adds years. And i’m so glad to find your post. Now I know what my sudden interest in hats is all about. I thought I was just developing character.

    • Thank you for stopping by Barb and leaving a comment. I would love to cut my hair short, but it’s just not me, so hats it is and anyway there is nothing like a hat for projecting your character.

  10. I think you did well to swear off hair dye. There can be a lot of beauty in grey too. Not to speak of the dignity in presenting yourself as you are. And sometimes just a dab of color… not loads of it… at some other place… in your clothes… or even your expression, can bring the dynamic look. Have no fear of age. It can be wonderful!

    • I like the idea of ‘presenting myself as I am’ – thank you for your lovely comment.
