That Friday Feeling
These were the flowers on my desk this morning. Tulips are my favourite flowers. Why? Because they die so beautifully.
I think this image is also fairly representative of how many of us feel when we reach the weekend. I’ve spent my week up to my neck in client casework. My colleagues and I are also juggling a bit more than usual as a couple of members of staff are coping with fairly serious illness. We’re a tight-knit team and we pull together to make sure everything is covered. Today however our collective breath was taken away when we learnt that one of our work buddies has been diagnosis with cancer. Not only does he have a challenging journey ahead of him but his prognosis is not good.
It puts my week into perspective – hell it puts my life into perspective.
So this morning I gave my wee vase of tulips some fresh water in the hope than when I return, like me, they will have found a new lease of life.
Today has remind me how fortunate I am to have a spring in my step – something that I know my buddy will be struggling to achieve.

Good luck for your workfriend.
I’m sorry. I wish the best for your colleague and for you as you confront all that his illness will mean in your life.
I love tulips, too.
Thank you Pat. I’m not really prone to writing such sentimental posts but this just took my breath away. I know that people face such things every day. We’re quite a close knit team and he’s one of the good guys in this life. One thing I do know is that our company is hugely supportive of it’s staff. Sadly this is not always the case when people are trying to come to terms with and cope with illness.
Hang in there and remember that cancer miracles happen all the time.
fingers crossed and my thoughts with you
So sorry to hear about your colleague. I hope, despite the prognosis, that he remains positive in outlook and demeanor. I’m glad to hear your organization is supportive of its staff. This will help.
I totally understand when you say that news like that puts a lot in perspective. It really flushes out the real priorities in your life. Ones that we should make sure we are attending to every day, for we are never guaranteed more than the very moment in which we are currently living.
I couldn’t agree with you more Phil.
Read your blog earlier ,so itook it upon myself to see if i could put a smile on
your wee face before the end of your trying day,so i left a small something at your
front door ,ps pressie for hubby to (ENJOY)
This was very kind of you Billy. A lovely surprise.
Sorry to hear about your friend. It does put everything in perspective.
It just reminds me that life can change in an instant.
Not sure about a drop of water, looks like they may need the kiss of life to revive them!
Would you believe it when I came home each tulip was standing bolt upright – how wonderful was this
The picture says it all–they may be droopy, but they are still lovely. Oh how I know that feeling!
But hey, after some fresh water they bounced back – just like us
Isn’t it nice to know that like your tulips with fresh water, you too can be revived with a little encouragement and some kind words ? Hang in there. Perspective is a terrific thing.
Thank you Elizabeth, it certainly is.
